Hello

this is the first time I have used this forum and I'd be extremely grateful for some advice on a problem I have. I have noticed over the past few nights that my BOSCH fridge (KTL15V20GB) in my kitchen is switching itself off. The light is still working however. I think that the problem might be that my kitchen can get very very cold at night (as it is like a conservatory) and so this means the fridge cannot work below 10degrees celcius. This is the first winter in my house and so this problem hasn't happened before. Obviously I can try keeping the heating on all night but I wondered whether anyone else had any tips/advice that I can try just whilst we are having this cold snap. usually the fridge works absolutely fine.

However, if you think there may be something else wrong please advise!!

I'd be so grateful for any advice you could offer me, :)
Many thanks in advance
Hannah

Is the temperature inside the fridge suffering?
Do you have one of those little thermometers
inside to measure the temperature?

I may have read your post wrong and misinterpreted
the information wrong, do you mean the fridge is cutting
off normally (like it is supposed to do) or do you mean the
thing is cutting off and not coming back on.

You are correct about the low kitchen temperatures, if
domestic fridges are below about 16 degC they struggle
to run correctly.

But my fear is you are confusing the cutting off and on,
which is a normal cycle of the thermostat with the thing
cutting off because of a potential fault.

So to put the mind of a semi senile old fa*t like me at rest
you do know that the fridge should cut off and on normally
don't you :o and if you do and you are referring to a kitchen
temperature issue then unfortunately it is an issue with some
domestics that they are not designed to run in cold environments.

Hi Rob

Thanks very much for getting back to me. The temperature inside the fridge is suffering, when the fridge cuts out, the mini freezer defrosts. The only thing inside the fridge is a dial or 0-5. Currently it's set at 3. Last night it was working and when I went to check this morning is wasnt (no whirring noise, but light still working). To be honest with you, I've got no idea whether it's a fault or to do with the coldness of my kitchen! I do know that it's not cutting off normally (due to the cycle of the thermostat), having come back from a weekend away on sunday, food in the fridge had started to go off as a result which I presume means it didn't come back on when meant to?

If it is a kitchen issue, is there anything that I could do to help in the short term? Please excuse my total lack of knowledge about this!!

Many thanks
Hannah

If you were away for the weekend and the house was empty and allowed to,
cool down it does sound like a kitchen temperature issue and that
would be proven out if in the morning when the heating is back on the thing
fires up again.

If the thing goes off and does not come on it could be a thermostat issue.

For you to be able to find out the only way is to put the fridge in part of the
house that is warm for a few days and then test it.

If it works like normal then it is down to the temperature of the kitchen and
short of putting the heating on in there, there is little you can do.

If the thing still fails to play properly then chances are the thermostat is faulty
and it will need replacing, because thermostats tend to fail ether full on of full
off. If your stat is faulty it will require replacing.

Thank you Rob, I really appreciate your advice.

Today is slightly warmer and the fridge seems to be on so hopefully there isnt' a fault.

Many thanks again
