Hi Guy's

We manufacture small fridge systems for the soft drink and brewing industry. In some of our larger beer coolers we have had some fail in the field with the filter driers splitting recently, not only on our machines but from other manufacturers machines we repair. The filter drier in question are the in-line tubular with a code GR 20 universal CD 013221 lettering.Copper molecular sieve drier (XH9). The is capillary controlled.

We are obviously investigating the cause, but if anyone has had this problem before I would be grateful for any help in their findings, as it mayhelp us get to the root cause quicker.

Are the failures down to excessive pressure or moisture?

What refrigerant are you using?
What is the design case temperature?
What is the refrigeration capacity of your cabinets (kW)

Made in China, retail in UK of about £2.99; try a better manufacturer if you can find one.

The water/beer coolers we make are relatively small, refrigeration capacity I'm told is 1.7kw, the refrigerant used is350g of R134A , using a Danfoss SC21F Hermetic compressor 20.95cm3 displacement. Several filter drier were put under pressure on a rig, started bulging at 750psi and split at 1500psi, our units never see this pressure. Our first thoughts were pressure increase until we saw this failure pressure, sure something else would have gone before then. Bad batch of filter driers yeah, but whats the chances of us getting the same batch as other companies. We have always made small drink dispensers just never seen this before. We're UK based.
