Good evening to everyone.
I`ve been trying to find a rule of thumb in regards to the correct separation (distance) between the return side of a forced air type evaporator and the walk-in wall, in order to achieve an efficient airflow. So far I have not been able to find it, but someone told me that it should be about half of the evaporator total width. Does this rule make any sense to you ? I have an evaporator which is about 3.65 meters wide, which makes about 1.80 meters the recommended distance. Isn`t it too much ?Thank you for your response.

I'm not going to hold you to the nearest millimetre though the method i use is dependant on the room size and load.
I never place evaporator inside the room entrance. Too much warm air sucked in and cold air forced out. Also causes a loss in capacity with premature ice build up.
Have enough space between a side or far wall so one can get in to clean the evaporator of either ice, or debris build up without having to be a contortionist!

Short answer: 500 mm
Depends on whether or not this is a chiller or freezer room with high, or low velocity air flow.
Distance from wall to evaporator is important so as not to have the evaporator short cycling air under normal, and restricted air flows.

Good evening and thank you for your responses. Apparently, 1.80 meters is too much. The proper distance should be between 300mm (as indicated in the brochure included by lowcool) and 500mm as recommended by mikeref. Good enough for me.

Lowcool, couldn't view that page. I'll try again later ;)

We use same distance as height

I have always used the depth of the coil multiplied by 1.5. So if you have a 12 inch deep coil place it 18 inches from the wall.

I've always worked on the evaporator fan diameter.
If it's an 800mm diameter fan, then 800-1000mm from the wall works for me.
Cheers.
