Hi all. New to this forum. I was wondering if I could get some advice on my last repair on a Carrier ultima unit. It was slow to cool so I took it in for repairs. According to the repair order, they replaced the compressor shaft seal, the filter drier and the SV3 valve.
Here is the parts list:
14-00209-00 filter drier
17-44138-00 service gasket (disc/metal) 10
17-44141-00 service gasket (suct/metal)
17-44145-00 seal kit O5G
22-50078-02SV female connector
81-02617-00SV valve assy. SV3&SV4
Labor----$955.50
Labor rate is $105 p/h. That works out to 9.1 hours.
I'm an ex Ford diesel tech and to me, this amount of labor just sounds too high for this. Maybe I don't know what I'm talking about on reefer units and there is more involved that I can see. Can someone shed some light on this for me please? total repair cost was $1500. Thanks for any help.

To reclaim the unit, replace the seal and solenoid valves then to recommission it again...
Possibly even reclaim it twice if they didn't know the SV valve was faulty to start with.

I would probably spend at least one day doing that, to me 9.1 hrs sounds about right

Hi adittransport.
I do not do vehicle refrigeration so maybe others can clarify your question.
However I am in agreement with the viking!
From a UK perspective the equivilent of £66.00 an hour is very cheap most Garages charge an average of £75-100 an hour.

The more specialist are way above that and I would call the work you have had done as specialist!
So in short, it would appear (from over here anyway) that you have not been ripped off.

I appreciate the feedback. Wasn't aware they had to recover and recharge the *****. It doesn't say so on the paper work. I feel a little better about it now. Thanks again.
