Whirlpool ARC7453 fridge/freezer problem

I would be extremely grateful if someone could help with the following problem:-
My 3 1/2 year old fridge/freezer fails to cut in when the temp rises in the fridge or freezer compartments. I can usually make it run for a few hours if I turn it off on the internal fridge temp control & then turn it back on. At first the fault was intermittent but now I'm having to restart the fridge/freezer every 4-5 hours. I have contacted Whirlpool but all they will offer is a repair plan @ £13.99 per month, but I would like to fix the problem my self.

Thanks for showing an interest, the fridge/freezer certainly is broke but its having a good spell at the moment & running, I am located in Torquay.
