Hi Bernard!
Starting method (Not important what type compressor)depends very much from power of the motor
It is very nice idea do it with the softstarter.

Hi bernard,
A soft start is a good one.
YY is another one.
And direct start.
These are the most common ways to start a semi hermetic compressor.

Thanks Peter
Most of the part wound motors I have seen have their timers set for 1 second. Is this a standard setting or should it vary depending on size ?????
Thankyou
Bernard

We set it also that short: 1 sec.
In Y-D start you have to set the time as long the current in Y isn't 'flattened' . You can only set this by measuring the start AMP's and time when the current drops and stabilises. This will be the time for the Y-run.
