Hi all,
New to the industry, hopefully off to do my Level 2 at college shortly.
Was just wondering what the difference between a large condensing unit and a chiller of the same size is?
Also what is the difference between VRF and VRV?
Many Thanks.
Rich.

VRV = Registered name for Daikin
VRF = Every other manufacturer
A large condensing unit condenses refrigerant for use elsewhere, remote evaporator(s).
A chiller cools water/brine for use in remote cooling equipment.

Evening Brian,
you beat me to it whilst collecting pics :)
Evening Tony,
At a guess is it frosties for breakfast ;)
as Brian described above, with a couple of pics to help understand mate
condensing unit consists of main components 'compressor & condensor'
7262
water chiller consists of everything needed to cool the water system in use
7263
VRV is a condensing unit of sort but is connected to multiple evaporators
7264
VAV is an air make up system
7265
pictures might help as we could be here a very very long time trying to explain them all
welcome to Re by the way & the industry

Hi Peter
'tony the tiger' unless my poor memory fails me was the cuddly tiger on the 'Kellogs Frosties' advert....thats why I hazard a guess in my previous post that he has 'frosties' for breakfast :)
The things that stay with you for life, I still have 'chocolate ready brek' which is a bit like porridge with a chocolate flavour :D
As for what he's started mate, this could be the biggest thread ever, if we dive in & try to explain how all the systems he has asked about, work/differences/set-up/faults
Seriously as Peter said this is not an industry to just think I will have a go at that, it's a never ending learning curve & thats once you truly get your head around the basics, but I do beleive 'nearly' anyone can do anything you just got to try .... note the nearly, its not a trade for everyone mate,
