We are working with a 3500 cfm fan through intake ducting in a refrigeration setting. I have always been told that the intake side is more potentially limited and should be 1. sized correctly and 2. smooth to allow for better flow.

I am assuming that it is easier to force the air through a duct system than pull it and hence our efforts so far have been on the intake side.

Just how important is suction compared to discharge?

Thanks,

Jim

The inlet side of a fan unit should provide a free and direct flow of air into the fan. Also the type of fan used can influence things.

The entire duct system should be designed properly and carefully.
