circa '65 carrier, 40t a/c system, 06e

had a blown valve - all new valves/plates/gaskets, 500micron, 74#virgin r22, sight glass 1/2 full, 85ambient, 365/70, liq line 83deg, suct line 87deg, discharge 275deg, manually operated 3rd sol v to full open - brought discharge to 255deg, suction to 90, head same

asap(rebuilders) and senior techs are scratching their heads

diagnosis?!!!

Hi mpowerdog and welcome to the forum.
Making a few assumptions here - air cooled cond, Three TEVs stacked one on top of the other, AC, high superheat.
Measure each superheat in turn as loading then all three when fully loaded. Is there OA dampers and what position? What is the on/off coil temps average? Sounds like (with the info given) TEV superheat problem. What controls the SValves?
Also check the carlyle manual http://www.scribd.com/doc/13484919/Carlyle-Service-Manual for compressor faults and other useful info. Let us know how you go. Almost forgot - I think it takes 24 running for the valves to bed in and seat properly.

Tesla may well have a good point about the Valves needing to bed in.
Isolating the suction and discharge and observing the rate of pressure equalisation. May well prove his point?
Please look at the attached.
Has anyone considered that the internal pressure relief valve may of blown? (section ss item 31 )
Particularly as you mention valve issues previously!
Just one of many thoughts
IE If the comp was running for any length on time with a blown valve, surely the rings could of glazed the liner affecting the seal between both?
Is your loading / unloading gear working as it should?

Is the 365/70 a typo or actual. Awfully high for 22!!!!
