R134A and R409A (FX56)

Afternoon all,

I have a small enquiry,

Was at a site, working on a walkin freezer to find that the compressor had failed due to the electric being burth out.

On the expansion valve it had R134A but on the condensing unit it had R409A (FX56), Now am unsure of what gas it will and the fact that one runs mineral oil and the other runs polyester oil.

Only suggestion i can come up with was to take a sample from the oil and sent it away but this takes 1-2 weeks.

Has any1 got any other suggestions??

R409A is a drop in for R12 so will work ok with an R134a txv

If you can't get an R12 comp then you could put an equivalent R134a one on and run it on R413A/R49 (another R12 drop in) to avoid any problems with residual mineral oil in the system. Ester oil is fine with either cfc, hcfc or hfc's and will mix with any mineral oil ok to.

I don't think FX56 is available anymore due to its R22 content.

Perfect thanks, I was gona run it on R134A but think il get some R413a
