Found all this while searching for information about copper corrosion. 2 cases I have for the moment: 1 piece of +/- 15 cm (7 inch) Armaflex isolated 1 3/8 pipe of a Daikin VRV, installed underground but in a seamless PVC sleeve, no water in the sleeve and +/- 50 leaks on it.

Another case: 2 independent evaporators in a ventilated counter and +/- both have leaks on 1 piece of +/- 10 cm (+/- 5 inch) 1/2 tube, sometimes 100 leaks on this end.
No agresive cleaning agents used, only twice a year cleaned with drinkable water.

You can always blame Global Warming......:D

Seriously, I have seen galvanised steel pipes wrapped with PVC isolation tapes and was told that it prevents all kinds of external corrosion.
Maybe it worth trying.
