New Manitowac leaking and scaling

I am going to look at a new style Manitowac Ice machine that is leaking and scaling.

I guess this is the second machine in place that has done this, same style.

The water is softened.

Any ideas?

Softening the water does not remove the scale, but causes a portion of the calcium and magnesium in hard water to be replaced with sodium. This is ok in house water, but when you chill/freeze/evaporate the water the remaining hardness including the sodium will drop out. This can be seen in humidifiers and ice machines.

It is possible that the water softener is not large enough, or you may need to consider reverse osmosis.
