Would appreciate some help on this one !!
Called that unit would not run.....found start capacitor terminal broke off, and was arcing. Replaced and unit ran fine.....in the shop. Took back to customers trailer. Next day he called and said unit was cycling off and on. Checked high pressure switch and this was the cause. It wouild start and go up to 400 PSI, then cut out. After so many times it would start.......but not always. Its a tube in tube condenser.......getting lots of water flow. Why would it shoot up sometimes....but then other times start fine. No one has touched the refrigeration system, at least not that im being told so far.

Hi Northern Tech, could be several things: irregular water flow, scaled heat exchanger [calcium out of water.], pre-mix being loaded in header tank too warm, premix should be held in standard refrigerator at +2> +3'c overnight. Another option is partially blocked liquid filter drier, since original problem, oil and refrigerant breakdown, compressor overheat.
Start with the water in and out temps versus gas in and liquid out temps, is the liquid line cool is there a temp difference across filter drier, what is suction pressure with high discharge. The earlier models were on R22 ,the later were on R404a. The pipe work is metric copper sizing[ a real pain when changing driers etc., ]

Im pretty sure water flow is consistent as I can see where it is running to an outside drain. This unit is charged with 408A. ( When the compressor runs, it runs fine and within amperage range...however its just the starting high pressure that is causing some grief ).

Hi NorthernTech,
does the unit have a water reg, valve. Pressure or temp. That could be the reason for high pressure at startup.

magoo is probably on the money re pressure /temperature actuated water valve also sounds like the water could be short circuiting, system has been opened r408 is a drop in for r502,so it may pay to reprocess system first after you find out what refrigerant it should have
