Yes it still runs. Level control got stuck on evap. slugged liquid ammonia into crankcase. How can I get it out?
Thanks, Mojjee

Sorry, just a joke because of start of your post.

You need to know your other system pressures; be able to make a pressure in the crankcase higher than whichever one can accept the excess refrigerant; than apply heat as necessary to burp refrigerant out of crankcase. Machine stays stopped throughout....

Is this machine by itself or are others maintaining the evaporator pressure? If the evap pressures are low, it may be as simple as connecting a (valved) hose from crankcase to low side and transferring refrigerant to low side.

If it needs to go to the condensing side, the crankcase will need to be seriously heated....Usually hot water is used. If this machine is by itself in a smaller room, you could consider heating the whole room up with construction heaters. That presuming that the room is not already strong in ammonia....Indirect Electric is the safest way.

You can also purge off ammonia to water but if this thing is good and full its going to take a lot of barrels of water; which may not be easy to dispose of depending on your location. In final stages, you may find the water trying to head the opposite way when the CC pressure drops below atmosphere.

In any case, it will NOT be quick. That crankcase will probably hold 35 or 40 gallons of refrigerant.
