Hi,
please let me know how to select the glycol type for chillers and how to calculate the quantity as well as concentration of glycol

Propylene glycol is environmentally frendly and and less health hazardous than ethylene glycol.
Other than that, they have simmilar characteristic in anti freezing performance.
Quantity and concentration is calculated by required freezing point and total volume of system.
It is plenty web sources for such a calculatins.

Hi, Ethylene glycol is usually used in non food safe applications, i.e. where a leak or spillage is not likely to come into contact with food, i.e. a bakery, meat plant etc... it is cheaper than propylene glycol, the propylene glycol is used in food critical applications, I have attached a document from DOW, this gives all the deets for "MonoEthylene Glycol". One point, you must buy "inhibited" glycol to protect the pipework/heat exchangers, there are many suppliers of this product around the world and DOW will most likely have a local representative, they will give advice freely, the document gives charts for calculating the concentration of Glycol in water and the relative freeze points. If you are testing a sample of Glycol/water solution to ascertain the concentration, you will need a hygrometer and a tall 1 litre flask, like those used by chemists, this will give you the specific gravity, when you have the specific gravity you can map it on the chart, this will ive you the solution freeze point. Remember, too much glycol will affect the performance of your chiller negatively.

If you need any help on this just ask.

Sorry, not able to post url's yet.

dow.com dowcal 10 and dowcal 20 are the ones I recommend, you can down load the info from their site, under products, then thermal fluids, then sleect the technical data sheet section, the above products are there in different languages. hope this does it.
