Hey Brad, useful I think, but I see that it is dated 2006 and I believe things have moved on from there.

Can you confirm that the document is current?

Hello Brad and Brian,

I think that the document is very complete but as Brian asks, is it realy up to date?
The fact is that every country also has it's ons rules about the global line of fasing out R-22.
For example here in the netherlands the always want to be the best boy in class so the goverment makes the rules as tight as possible.
If our local rules are not followed then they give big penalty's to the users.
For us there are 2 D-days.
1-1-2010 (no virgin R-22 to be sold or used in any way only regenerated)
1-1-2015 (no R-22 at all in what form or installation)
Everything with R-22 or mixture of it is banned from 1-1-2015.

In the netherlands we have a website about regulations were it is in. unfortunately it is in Dutch offcourse but maybe you have the same in your country.

Greetings.

Thanks BArt,

Plain English, it helps with customers also, who are getting hot under the collor, many thinking that all their AC units have to be changed on 1-1-10 !

Its given us time to manage the phase out.

SO Whats the drop in replacement for R22 ?

Mitsi Elec have told me NONE :(

Theres lots of expensive kit out there still happy running R22, a compressor failure, will bring a sytem to a halt, but what are the options in 2010 ?

COmplete new system ? Bit of a pain if the inside system is a ducted unit, hidden above a ceiling ?

Or a new R22 compressor running with a Drop in replacement ?

Lifted from a web site for a company that sent me an e-mail this morning offering to sell me air conditioning for my offices :D

03 Oct 2008 - R22 SYSTEM REPLACEMENT SCHEDULE
***** urge you to check your current air conditioning units to see if you have R22 refrigerant systems. If you do it is vital you start to plan a replacement programme! The government, who are desperately trying to hit their carbon emissions targets, have stated that any R22 systems that go wrong after 2009 must be replaced for greener options. ***** can investigate the systems you have and devise an affordable plan to minimise disruption and help budgets.
