Hi all - have read some other posts and this looks like the perfect site to raise our query! We have a Hoover Optima Fridge Freezer and recently (last 6 months) the freezer (at top) has been getting less and less effective and now no longer freezes at all.

We've previously had a problem with the top icing up, which was cured by re-gassing. That was some time ago.

The compressor and fan can be heard and it sounds fine. If we crank up the temperature dial the fridge starts gets very cold - even starts to freeze but nothing changes in the freezer.

Might it be as simple as replacing the fan? It's a lovely fridge/freezer and we have no desire to change it after 8 or so years. In fact, we'd happily spend as much as a new fridge to get it working again as it fits perfectly with our kitchen and we can't get a new one the same.
Local engineers just say replace it. Not sure what to do next :(

Hi Aberchick

Did they find a gas leak on it last time as this may be the problem again?

8 years is a good life nowadays for a fridge/freezer,but if everything is running and the freezer does not work it sounds like you will need an engineer to give it a look over.

The problem with these units is when there is a gas leak sometimes they cannot be found because the pipework is inside the shell and cannot be accessed.

Hi Chunk

thanks for the advice - may need to check out gas leaks first as you suggest before consigning it to the graveyard :(
