    Question about centrifugal compressors

    Dear Friends,

Would you please let me know what is the meaning of this sentence ?
"All refrigeration compressors except centrifugal compressors contain oil"

At centrifugal compressor we do not use oil ?

    Sincerely yours.

    Re: Question about centrifugal compressors

Generally the motor is external to the compressor and the shaft bearings are also outside of the refrigerant circuit.

There is a lubrication system but it is <within><correction - outside> the refrigerant circuit.

Download the manual for a Carrier 19XRV chiller and look at the lubrication diagram, it will be helpful.
