Difference between a large condesing unit and a chiller, and between VRF and VRV
Hi all,
New to the industry, hopefully off to do my Level 2 at college shortly.
Was just wondering what the difference between a large condensing unit and a chiller of the same size is?
Also what is the difference between VRF and VRV?
Many Thanks.
Rich.

Re: Difference between a large condesing unit and a chiller, and between VRF and VRV
VRV = Registered name for Daikin
VRF = Every other manufacturer
A large condensing unit condenses refrigerant for use elsewhere, remote evaporator(s).
A chiller cools water/brine for use in remote cooling equipment.Brian - Newton Abbot, Devon, UK

Evening Brian,
you beat me to it whilst collecting pics
Evening Tony,
At a guess is it frosties for breakfast
as Brian described above, with a couple of pics to help understand mate
condensing unit consists of main components 'compressor & condensor'
condensing unit.jpg
water chiller consists of everything needed to cool the water system in use
chiller.jpg
VRV is a condensing unit of sort but is connected to multiple evaporators
vrv.jpg
VAV is an air make up system

pictures might help as we could be here a very very long time trying to explain them all
welcome to Re by the way & the industry

He doesn't know Chillerman what he started, he better had think twice before joining this industry. :-)
Hey welcome Tiger. Is Tiger your last name? It's better to keep your mouth shut and give the impression that you're stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

Re: Difference between a large condesing unit and a chiller, and between VRF and VRV
Hi Peter
'tony the tiger' unless my poor memory fails me was the cuddly tiger on the 'Kellogs Frosties' advert....thats why I hazard a guess in my previous post that he has 'frosties' for breakfast
The things that stay with you for life, I still have 'chocolate ready brek' which is a bit like porridge with a chocolate flavour
As for what he's started mate, this could be the biggest thread ever, if we dive in & try to explain how all the systems he has asked about, work/differences/set-up/faults
Seriously as Peter said this is not an industry to just think I will have a go at that, it's a never ending learning curve & thats once you truly get your head around the basics, but I do beleive 'nearly' anyone can do anything you just got to try .... note the nearly, its not a trade for everyone mate,

Useful piccy's CM but he didn't ask about VAV, it was VRV and VRF.
