    Different systems have different lengths.

There is no minimum but the maximum can
vary from 15mtrs to 25 mtrs.

Each system will have an instruction book and in that book you will find the maximum length and how much refrigerant you need to add over a certain amount.

as per installation instructions. It varies, so the manufacturers tell you with their specific units in the install instructions. The bigger the unit, the longer the run allowed as a general rule.
small 2kw units are normally 7m larger splits are up to 15m.

As far as oil return, that's mainly an issue if the outdoor unit is above the indoor unit and the pipes are exceedingly long.

Majority of systems do have a minimum pipe length as they come pre charged for X meters. this means if you get a back to back then you will have an over charged system!

Some of the larger Daikin splits have a 5M minimum pipe run on them!

Oil return can be a problem, also pressure drop over the longer distances, but a good quality, well installed system will work well as long as it is within the peramiters set by the manufacture.

    Yep good point
Some systems do have a minimum distance and I was being too general.

    Cheers taz.
