Can we turn off the fridge/freezer for 6 months?

Hi, New to this forum. I do not know whether it is right place for my question. I have 2 questions regarding fridge/freezre.
    1. We are going on holidays for 2 months back with parents. Can we turn power off our fridge/freezer for 2 months?
Second question is: We have boght a holiday home and we want to furnish it. We are buying 450 L Fridge/freezer. We will be using for 2 months and then we want to turn power off for 6-8 months. Someone told me that we can not keep turned off for that long period. I can not understand. We will be using appliences only for 2 months every year. Is it not safe for fridge compresser? or Gas or oil inside it?
    Pleae help.

    Thanks

It is OK your leave your fridge/freezer off,

    TIP -
To prevent the build up of odours and mildew forming when you are away, clean the inside just before you leave with a 50/50 mix of water and vinegar, not forgetting to scrub the door gaskets, shelves, sides and door.

it should be ok it will just take hours or days to get cold again since the charge has settled.

i know this since i recycle metals and have gotten some older frigidaire refrigerators from the 60's ( the ones with the latch on the door and completely exposed ice box.

if left in storage that can take hours to start getting cold (i suspect why some people throw them out because they did not get cold in a reasonable time frame

    Hi vsdabhi
Welcome to our forum. Six months ago I went back to my storage unit in NZ and sold a westinghouse fridge freezer to my mate. The fridge had been sitting there for more than four years. It was about four years old before I stored it - it is still running today. I must admit I did clean it extremely to prevent mold and smell which worked well. So I guess if you clean it well to prevent the mold and smell it will help prevent corrosion/gas leaks and should still run well.

    .

As the other say you can turn off the fridge for as long as you want.

Leave the door jammed open to stop smell and clean before use.

    All the best
