Daikin A/C Cellar Temperature Control
Hi everyone, great forum, I'm hoping to get some advice.
I have a below ground wine cellar with a staircase to the ground floor. It is 45 cubic meters in volume.
I have been running it without active cooling (passive) for 2 years and throughout the year it temperatures range from 16 degC to 23 degC. I am installing a Daikin Cooling only Conventional Split (1.5HP).
I have a Windland DPM-4 temperature/Humidty monitoring alarm panel. It has four zones, each with NO/NC potential free (dry) contacts.
I would like to use one of the zones (temperature) to control the plit unit. I can run a 240v relay switch to literally turn the unit off/on (unit has auto restart), but I thought there might be a better way to do this.
Looking at the Daikin site, there are some accessories for these units which may work.

Unfortunately there is no information apart from a model number.
All I want to do is stop.start the AC from a potential free contact.
I'm also installing the head unit at the top of the stairwell as its the only place to run the pipework, it will sit about 3.5 meters from the bottom of the cellar. Will the cool air from the unit make its way down to the cellar efficiently? The cellar is sealed, including door.
Any help, or any other recommendations are appreciated.

Re: Daikin A/C Cellar Temperature Control
You could either use a KRP413A1S or a DCS301B51.
(interface boards that will give you two terminals to connect to)
That was the good bit.
Here comes the bad bit. (assuming that you like to drink your wine)
The Daikin unit is designed to provide comfort cooling.
(No big deal?)
First of all it is designed to keep a temperature of about 21-22 Degrees C, far too warm for your wine (which ideally would be stored around 15 degrees C).
Secondly, and more important, in order to keep humans comfortable you keep the moisture levels low. As a result, units designed for comfort cooling removes a lot of moisture (compared to refrigeration units). Your wine should ideally be stored in humidity above 70%, there is no way a comfort cooling unit will leave that much moisture in the room and still maintain the temperature.
What you need is a cellar cooler (which due to different design doesn't dehumidify as much as an air conditioner). Possibly together with a humidifier.
Good luck.

Re: Daikin A/C Cellar Temperature Control
Thanks.
I am well aware of the refrigertion vs A/C debate for wine cellars.
Anyway, I have decided to go this way as many of my friends have with no issues, and I'll let you know how it goes.
Now regarding the control.
KRP413A1S or a DCS301B51
Does anyone have the manual for these?
Where aer they physically installed (so I can pre run any wires).
What type of configuration is required if any ?
How do they actually control the a/c?
Turn it off, slow it down, how?
Alternative to this, why not use the auto restart feature and run a 240v relay switch to switch the main power to the unit on and off as required?
The unit im putting in is a FTD35F.Last edited by Cellar Dweller; 08-01-2008 at 03:55 AM.

The KRP413A1S manual is not there unfortunately.

Re: Daikin A/C Cellar Temperature Control
The KRP "manual" consists of a photocopied sheet of paper that comes in the box with it.
The KRP is a small PCB with a lead that plugs in to the PCB of the unit and 3 screw terminals for you to connect external control devices to. In some indoor units there are enough space by the PCB to just "slot" the KRP in beside it, on others the KRP needs to be fitted in a box beside the indoor unit.

Re: Daikin A/C Cellar Temperature Control
Thankyou. The only manual I could find with the text "KRP" was OM-KRP1B51, and that has no reference to the pcb I am after.
The cooler I have purchased is a FTD35F, do you know if the KRP413A1S PCB will fir in the unit? I hope it does.
The unit is going in on Monday as well, So I will eb sure to let you know how it goes, and to leave rep for anybody who has helped.

Re: Daikin A/C Cellar Temperature Control
Can the running status of the A/C be taken from this board?

Re: Daikin A/C Cellar Temperature Control
Yes
and
No...
It depends on what you are after, it have the ability to give you an alarm output but it won't tell you if the compressor is running.

Re: Daikin A/C Cellar Temperature Control
I want to start/stop it remotely, and if possible it would be nice to pull off the running status.
Not essential, but would be nice.
