HP switches needed on 3hp system?

I was told as a young (and impressionable) lad that HP switches where a legal requirment on all compressors 2 HP and over. A recent system i have been sorting out hasn't one fitted (3hp scroll unit) although it would have had one from the factory. Closer inspection shows the unit to have been made up from bits with the compressor and fan not being original to the base As is the case with another unit on site 2hp compressor on 3hp condensing unit base. The reciever has a fusible plug rated at 73c.
Think i will fit one either way but would like to know

    Cheers Jon

I would always recommend using a dual pressure switch. One set of wires, and both sides of the compressor protected.
If all else fails, ask for help.
