Re: evaporative air conditioning handbook
Lc,
Evaporative cooling reminded me of a project we did very recently. Themain project was for installing the refrigeration systems for Precooling of Grapes and subsequent Cold Storage.
In addition to the above the clients wanted to have a temperature of about 22 Deg. C with an RH of 80% in the Pack House, where the Grapes are graded, sorted and then packed.
What I had done ,was provide a number of adiabatic humidifiers and propellor fans for circulation of air. I installed a small water chiller at a height above the humidifiers so that the water may flow into the humidifiers slowly by gravity. The chilled water being supplied is at 8 Deg. C. Due to this the water being spayed inside the Pack House is at about 18 Deg. C. Due to Evaporation the room temperature is being maintained at 22 Deg. C with an RH of 80%.

Re: evaporative air conditioning handbook
I think the posted price of the book on the website is a "Members Only" price. Amazon had some copies of this book ranging from $100 to higher $USD.
If all else fails, ask for help.

The link to purchase this book on line is
http://www.thefairmontpress.com/
The cost of the book is USD 89 but is being offered for USD 24. The charges for handling and forwarding is very high and when added the total cost comes to USD 92. I have asked for clarifications and propose to get it.

Re: evaporative air conditioning handbook
Hi samarjit
Your project is good. Evaporative cooling may be used for pre-cooling of grapes.

Re: evaporative air conditioning handbook
LC the precooling was done by refrigeration and the pack house had a combination of evaprative Cooling with refrigeration for chilling the water and as such the plant capacity was lower.

Re: evaporative air conditioning handbook
Hello US Iceman,
Thank you for the link. This sort of Evaporative Cooling is very popular in our country specially the Northern part where in summers it is very hot. These used to be known previously as Desert Coolers.
Where the applications are for larger units ie the air discharge is large, instead of wet pads banks of water spray headers are used. They then pass through an eliminator section which is just a restriction created by vertical plates of W section, so that the water laden air sheds the water particles.

Re: evaporative air conditioning handbook
Thank you US Iceman,
Yes I am aware of the Air Washers as I have designed and installed a large number of them for various Industrial and Commercial application.
In the old Trane Air Conditioning Manual there is a lot of information on Air Washers.

Just trying to be helpful.
I think Carrier used to use these with chilled water systems for some of the first air conditioning systems. If all else fails, ask for help.

Re: evaporative air conditioning handbook
Hi US Iceman,
I have also done air conditioning projects for commercial use using chilled water in the air washer.
Just recently we did the air conditioning of the Packhouse for a Grape Export unit and incorporated the principle of evaporation using chilled water.
It is quite efficient.

Re: evaporative air conditioning handbook
INDIRECT DIRECT EVAPORATIVE COOLING (IDEC) is also now used extensively.you may get in touch with www.hmx.biz Sumaya HMX Systems at Bangalore is the manufacturer. We have done for MICO BOSCH Workshop with the above system and in summer inside conditions are at 23 degree C with 100 % fresh air
