Re: Big Centrifugal chillers
Hello,
Art Kuhn made a nice joke...Johnson Control..why do you think they bought York...
I was asking for capacity above 5 MW, as I can see in the answers, there is probably nobody else than York and Carrier...

Re: Big Centrifugal chillers
HI,
Malik55, thank you very much for the infos,
it is very very interesting. I had the oportunity to work in MHI in Nagasaki, but obviously it not there that these units were built or they would have tell me something about it...
Trane, it looks like "old design" units , but please tell me if I am wrong.
They have semi hermeti with R134 a up to 3,5 MW and "new" unit with R 123, I don't get the point to built new units with this refrigerant, ( only good to replace R 11).
For the Big Chillers, I have seen 30 MW Units ( 2 in Paris) : multistage from York, 24 MW Carrier ( 1 in Paris ) single stage from Carrier.

Re: Big Centrifugal chillers
Why do you think the Trane units look old design?
And open drive?
I've worked on several centrifugal chillers from Trane, all hermetic and all on R134a!
Some early models uses 123 but not the ones we've placed a year ago! And the ten new ones we are going place in Holland are all R134a!

Re: Big Centrifugal chillers
Thank you all for the answers, do not hesitate to continue to put more infos for me.
Sorry for the Trane Remark, they have now units with R134, but on the web, I was a little bit surprised to find still some new units with R123.
I am very impressed by the Mistubishi units, variable diffuser and variable speed drive is definitly a big improvment for the energy saving.

Re: Big Centrifugal chillers
Hi,
I'm new to site so not too sure how to post etc but anyway here goes I need a bit of help.I have a York centrifugal chiller with a sub cooler in the condenser. We have alot of leaks in the sub cooler & at the moment we are retubing same. When we removed the old tubes we noticed that the tubes sit in a type of mesh wire down through the sub cooler & this is exactly where the tubes are leaking. I would like to know if anybody else has come across this problem & if so how did you rectify it. I would also like to know if anybody out there can recommend a good company to retube shell & tube condensors/evaporators in Ireland or the UK.
Thanks in advance

Re: Big Centrifugal chillers
Question for Malik. Did you ever work on a Chrysler C2 centrif!! 'Cos if you did you know that they were not the best m/c ever built, also Westinghouse is now Mcquay which has been taken over by Daikin, so maybe the build quality will improve

Re: Big Centrifugal chillers
Don't forget former Sulzer Friotherm in switzerland, now they have called Friotherm AG,the big impeller is 560mm,and speed is about 15000rpm,so you can image how big it is.
