Richard, we have an Astro that travels rather heavily loaded and we get around 18 mpg. In a way, fuel consumption is much like amperage draw. There is no getting around paying for the work being done. I imagine I would get better mileage lightly loaded. Do you have any recommendations? The Astro is no longer available anyway.

I had an Astro full size van for 2 years. A 2000 model rear wheel drive only (not the all wheel drive model) with 5.0 engine only got 19-21 miles per gallon highway miles. I found it light in the back and switched to all season tires which helped. On wet pavement the back would slide out a bit. Otherwise it was a decent running van with a lot of cargo space.
