Carrying out HP trip on Airedale chiller
Hi guys.
Have a question in which I'm hoping the more experienced engineers may be able to help me out with.
I carried out a HP trip test but chiller didn't trip out on HP. It sat at 13.9Bar before going out on compressor overload and condenser fan overload.
Now this circuit is R134A and appears to have a lack of fridge, although only running at 25%, no flashing sight glass and green, no temp difference across the drier cores, fans working well. The other circuit tripped out as it should.
The only thing noticeable was the heavily frozen eev.
Would this possibly be a HP switch or due to the lack of fridge or something else possibly?
Help appreciated as I'm only new to this game.

It’s an air cooled pacakge chiller.
I turned off the fans to carry it out

What is the HP switch set at?
How did the condenser fans trip on overload when they were switched off?
The EEV may not be controlling properly, it needs checking.

The HP trip is set at around 16Bar.
I've no idea, that is what came up on the controller under alarms.
I know it is short of fridge and that combining with the fact that teh eev is heavily frozen that could of been the issue?

You need to repair the leak on the system and recharge it correctly before any further fault finding.
You say it is short of "fridge", what type, under counter, concealed, bottle cooler? Or is it short of refrigerant?Brian - Newton Abbot, Devon, UK

I mean short of refrigerant. That’s just a term we seem to use. Thanks though I just thought I’d see if anyone had come across it before.
Yes frank I had my Bluetooth gauges set on the system also that’s where I got the reading

Hi Fella
the reason you have the fan overload trip is because you switched the breaker off that will generate an overload alarm. There are inverter fans on theses also
the chiller will unload @14.0 barg to prevent a high pressure trip in order to trip the chiller
the best way is to enter the test page and manually load the compressor to 8 steps 100% then switch the fans off then the chiller will trip out on high pressure
or just lower the software hp setting down to 8.0barg and let it trip on software setting
