    Question What can I install

I have been asked to quote for some system to go into an Industrial unit.

    The industrial unit is 31m x 88m x 7m (pitched going to 12m).

Hrp and 3d have said that i need 410kw of cooling and heating.

All I wanted to do was suspend some ducted A/C units and duct socks running across where the workforce (50 people)will be working.

Then some ceiling fans to keep the air pushed down. As i only want to heat and cool the work area and not the unwanted space above.

HRP and 3D said that I shouldn't use their A/C units and to use the ETW system. Then I call a technical guy, who works for MHIE. and he says that its for hot water heating systems and is not suitable for the job I'm doing.

All I wanted to know, is that can I do what i was intending to do without having to heat and cool above head height (give or take a bit) and how many units at what KW would I need to heat or cool at a temp of 21-25 without having to heat and cool the whole building.

    (If that makes sense)

    Can anyone suggest anything?

I have just done a quick desk top callculation with the figures you state
and comfort cooling would require about 340 Kw. So take into consideration
machinery and heat gain, windows and doors..........

You realy do need to do this correctly otherwise the customer will never pay you
because your system will not deliver.

You need to design a propper system not just throw in some units and then blow the air around.

Do it right first time and he will be a happy customer.......

    Re: What can I install

Thanks for your reply Taz. I'm trying to work out if I can reduce the load By installing lots Ceiling fans above the ducted units that push the heat down when they are in heating operation.

As I will need loads of units. The highest KW ducted units that MHI do are 28KW each.

The power consumption will be too much if I install these to reach the required capacity. What system would you go for.

I've looked at the VRF and MHI say that they don't think its a good idea putting a VRF in.

    Have you considered chilled beams?

De-stratification fans will be advisable for the heating season

he running costs are going to be big. Would the client consider enclosing the space to be treated?

    Re: What can I install

One question before we go to far...

    What are the expectations?
It's no good you calculating heat loads for keeping it at 22 +/- 1 if all they really want is a "breath of fresh air".
When you say industrial unit are we talking something like a factory floor? Office?

Most factories just got ventilation and heating, in the summer it gets hot but that is what people expect...

    Re: What can I install

It's a production area. Where they assemble components. There's going to be approx 50 people in there and they want the temp between 21 and 25. Some kind of calibration is being done in one end of the unit.

The budget is not great. MHI are not very helpful. They keep saying "we'll get back to you" (and they don't).

Sound similar to a system my old boss, Big Dave, fitted.

He used an airdale air handler (it was a whopper!) suspended from the ceiling with two socks on it. It worked really well but was cooling only.

    Cheers,
    Andy.
Health and safety first..........unless I'm in a hurry.

I had a Boss once called Big Dave! I'm still scratching my head, trying to work out what to do and looking at different sites etc.
