    Increasing system capacity

I have a situation where the air cooled split system does not handle the load.
On the hot days the space temp goes up to 27 deg C.
Due to space limitations its impossible to install another unit.
It was suggested to install a DX coil in the Return Air duct to drop the RA temp down to say 23C.
Not sure what the problems are in regard to this and how to control it.
    Any suggestions?

Install a an evaporative pre-cooler before the outdoor air inlet.

Not an evap cooler, "direct" just prior to condenser inlet. "Spray/mister nozzles"

it sounds like your system is way under capacity. is there any chance you could slip another coil next to the other one in front or behind and plumb that up to another condenser unit? where abouts in Aus are you?
