What`s the strangest thing you`ve worked on?
Just wondering what`s the strangest thing you`ve worked on be it in the fridge industry or otherwise.
Mine has to be in another life testing lifting equipment when I had to proof load test a table to take the weight of a baby elephant that was part of a tv ad for photocopiers.
The most enjoyable had to be removing a fifty ton overhead travelling crane in an old factory, we cut out the two tracks and used an winch to pull it off. That was twenty five years ago and my ears have only just stopped ringing from the crash.

Talking of Elephants.
I once worked in a pet food factory that took animals
and rendered them down to pet food and fertiliser,
anyway they had an elephant that had died in a circus and it was sent for disposal. It was so big it jammed
the crushing, mincing machine and caused no end of problems .

Re: What`s the strangest thing you`ve worked on?
Calabrese tomato plants lol, I like Brian's nuclear pond, but try working on a refrigerated container holding portable bee hives. Open the doors to get down to the evaporator when out of nowhere hundreds of wild bees fly in. Totally unprepared for this and about to bolt, the owner(who was also unprotected) just laughed and said not to worry about them and moved in further. They were all over and around me. Apparently if i moved slowly and didn't brush them off, they wouldn't sting. VERY UN-NERVING!!

Re: What`s the strangest thing you`ve worked on?
Another one, a Bat hospital. Lots of rainforest in this area and flying foxes(Bats) are protected. So this hospital has staff that go into forests and pick up sick Bats and bring them in for treatment. So they have the Batfridge, Batfreezer, Bat coldroom, Batwoman that runs the hospital and plenty of Bat smell.

Re: What`s the strangest thing you`ve worked on?
Worked the HVAC systems in a gentleman's club. Never had to look far for second set of hands. Volunteers around the block. The job included crawling thru the ductwork to clean up the fog/smoke/glitter/streamer mess. Then next call was cremetorium working on reefer holding boxes. From warm bodies to cold all in same day.
Don't leave it like you found it.....Leave it like it should be !!!

Re: What`s the strangest thing you`ve worked on?
Not so much the strangest thing worked on, but certainly one of the most interesting projects, many years ago long before my Space life, I designed and then subsequently installed a blast freezer unit for tank barrel production, which had the novel feature of a rail track system to carry the gun barrels from the heat chambers into the blast freezer chamber,
Happy days
Cheers,
Mark.

Re: What`s the strangest thing you`ve worked on?
I was called out to fix a coca cola vending machine on the space station Mir. When i got up there... same old story, some spendthrift russian cosmonaught with a little too much time on his hands , had stuck two aluminium washers together to pose as a 2 dollar coin.
Anyway i fixed the coin mech, then just as i was about to leave ( the shuttle had docked and the captain was reaching through the airlock to grab my toolbag for me), another astronaught ,japanese i think, confronted me and questioned the need for the soda vender to be up here in the space station anyway . He went on to tell me that even when the right coins were inserted and your beverage choice selected, the zero gravity always prevented the cans from falling down into the retrieval compartment...
Well i was getting the " hurry up" signal from Columbia, so i told him i try to get back up next week to take a better look. not sure if i'll go back.I heard Nasa uses 90 day accounts...... Cheepskates !!
