Replacement for R403b
Hi Folks
I maintain some Thermo King refrigeration units which Use R403b refrigerant. This is a blend containing R22 and was a drop in replacement for R502 (r.i.p)
Presumably then this will not be available past the end of this year. Can any one therefore suggest a replacement that does not require changing from mineral oil to POE?
Any help or your experiences will be most gratefully received.
Am I also right in thinking that I will not be able to use any virgin R403b after the end of the year.

Re: Replacement for R403b
You are right that virgin R403B will not be available from the end of the year as it is a HCFC.
You have several options if you want to stay on mineral oil: R422A (Isceon 79) or R428A (RS52) are probably the best options.
Both are compatible with mineral oil and both suitable replacements for low temperature refrigeration. Capacity-wise, R428A has slightly better capacity than R422A and looking at my tables, should match R403B closely at -30 C. It also has negligible glide (0.5 C) which always helps!
Pressures are similar to R403B (slightly lower)
