    cellar cooler not cooling

Hi have been working on a IMI celler cooler today customer had said it was not cooling. On arrival found room temp. to be 10-12c think this is about right but found coil tempture on evaporator at bottom to be 0c and the top at 12c ??? System is a 407c and took suction pressures at 55psig. Condensor fan seems to be running at full speed todays outdoor temp 20c. Is the system short of gas or is there a problem with the expansion device may be partial blockgage any ideas? thanx

    Dear mknight

No offence, but what are you doing working on a cellar cooler if you don't know the basics??

Taking superheat readings, among other things, will tell you if it's short of gas.

Are you a trainee just out on your own?

alot of the IMI units have the exp device just after the liquid service valve at the outdoor unit they have a little orifice inside. Pump the unit down and take it apart, its on flare nuts sometimes they get crap inside them.

As Frank says, you need to take the temperature of the suction line and work out the superheat. This will tell you if the unit is short of refrigerant or if there is a blockage.
The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits.

If he said that he measured temperature at the coil at the bottom and the top, then he did somehow a SH measurement.
One part will be at evaporating temperature, the other part will be superheated +/-10K. With the glide of R407c, his measurements are +/- normal.
It's better to keep your mouth shut and give the impression that you're stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.
