Help Needed Daikin VRV
Hello All,
I have got to look tommorow at a Daikin VRV. I have never even seen one before let alone worked on it. I am trying to get forwarned before i get there, this is a list of all that another engineer has found and i hope someone can give me a clue what to look for.
Fuse V1 (10amp) on top right of PCB blown
No lights on at all on PBC
U4 fault showing on controller.
Apparently there is a smaller board above the main PCB with a two wire link cable going between them. This cable had been pulled off the smaller board so assume it shouldn't effect the running as i dont think the unit has been looked at previously for some time.
Many thanks
Raymond

take space airs phone number with you
u4 is a communication problem -usually one of the indoor units turned off
don't expect any help off the web -daikin is the worst manufacturer for putting up service stuff
http://www.macqueen-ac.co.uk/faqs.htm#q6
but with fuses blown on pcb boards then expect trouble,,oh and a big phone bill and a long day

I have MY 90CJ, MY 90B, MY90CJ7.
Can this help you and what do you need?
If you can be more specific, i can ask it in the DAIKIN factory nearby.

Lucky to Go's hey mark? they have many probs here, although i may be bias as we are the service agents... and it helps if the units were installed properly in the first place. but they do make up a significant number...
PS. i will do some searching for info when i get back to work next week, a fan decided to ite me on the hand on wednesday..."Old fridgies never die, they just run out of gas!"

This is the only on line manuals I could find and gives all you should need to know about designing a system or servicing one.
http://www.cooling-services.co.uk/do...ede01-2-15.pdf
Space Air don't post manuals on line but they do have information available in their dealer section. Not much use to anyone who doesn't have a dealer password to access it though. If you have any specific design questions or trouble shooting problems just ask.
The MY90 is a multi split heat pump unit capable of connecting 5 indoor units. The 'A', 'C' designation after the model number denotes the series. This unit has both a 240v and 415v feed to the outdoor unit and you must energise the 250v feed before the 415v feed other wise it will fault.
A U4 fault on the controller indicates an indoor/outdoor communication problem. If you have a dead indoor pcb then you won't get a display showing on the controller.

Hello all,
with regards to the original fault it turned out to be one of the condenser fans on the top was u/s.
I think it had got some water into it because once it was up & running after a few blown fuses it worked ok. Obviously i have ordered a new one.
Anyone has a problem with one of these i couldn't recomend Space more highly. They were very helpful on the phone & didn't have the attitude like some technical support offices who give the impression what are you doing working on this !.

Lin,
That link is indeed VERY good.
I printed it out some times and gave it as Richard did to our technicians so that they can learn a little bit the electronics.
Never saw this before in any manual of Daikin (and i have here a lot of them)
If you can 'grab' some more of those, don't hesitate to share them. They're very usefull.Last edited by Peter_1; 22-01-2004 at 03:26 PM.

Strange, the 1st manual came from Ostend (the European factory here nearby, +/- 15 miles) and never saw such a manual before.
I think they will be very usefull also.
I said this to MarcFiddi, I also have (printed versions) of Smeva counters Showmaster. If anyone needs sometimes some information, call me.

thanks lin ,
I've read the whole thing. very interseting .
this year is the first year that daikin is entering our market.
it will be dificult for them as its hard to find a house without air-conditioner in it.
by the way, most of the stuff being sold here, comes from your counry. but the best and more expensive is local made.

hi richard,
defenatly not amcor, they are no longer on the map!! piece of sh..t.
tadiran, elco and electra. three very good companies.
elco is one the biggest companies in the world, manufactur in israel, china, europe, australia, electronic - boards factory in hong-kong and many marketing companies all over the world.
we sell over here over 100000 units per year.
just yesterday I got a lorry full, thats 35 units and they already sold!!
I personaly work with tadiran, carrier is holding 30% of them so big brother is watching of the quality, and they are good.

many small importers bring cheap units from china but they are improving rapidly. so far they are not too reliable.
at home I have three elco and one sanyo from thier factory in italy.

i saw my first elco on a job for marc..
these were a few yrs old but based on those-'okay' is about as far as i'd go...
cassette quality -upper 'budget' condensers big heavy
no diagnostics etc..
daikin are very good quaility wise -ask peter1 for a trip to the factory- a really excellent facility
carrier splits are only okay if toshiba are involved ( carrier have been re-badging tosh for 20yrs or so)

well richard,
I can not argue with that. I agree that world wide best split air conditioners are the japanees. but they are not available everywhere.
childish political reasons avoided the japanees companies from selling over here.
within the local market, the companies I have mentioned, are the best.
in my living room there is an elco split for 11 years. nver touched it exept for cleaning filters or washing condenser after a sand storm. I call that exelance. controls by motorola.
if all air coditioners would have been so reliable, most of us would have been plumbers or electricians or god knows what.
the expected "life" should be about 5-6 years.
I defenatly take your invitation to visit daikin with peter in belgium and finish the tour at his wife's tea - room for a pint of good ale.
will you come too?

Hi all,
Read all the post the last days but I was too busy preparing my theoretical flying lessons (descending, turning and banking and stall) which I had to give last Saturday.
Sure, I can arrange a visit in Ostend but frankly, this is not so nearby for most of you all.
Even for us, when we have to order something, we must go via the Belgium Daikin sales office in Brussels.
We had once a broken Daikin compressor in a factory (KODAK) in the same street as the Daikin factory. It took 3 days before it was delivered. They then decided to never install Daikin anymore.
It became Carrier (it can now last 3 weeks before we have one )
Sure, Chemi can then afterward drink her Abbye Beer (9,5%) and her famous Poffertjes or taste one of the 25 different variations of coffee.
On her website, I have translated (from the English) the strange story of the most expensive coffee in the world (only 500 lbs or 250 kg production in a year) Kopi Luwak.
She don't sell it !!
