Help with Hotoint FFA71
Help please???
I have a 3 year old Hotpoint FFA71 and noticed las night that the freezer high temp light was on, but the temp in the freezer was fine but the food in the fridge was freezing. I turned the temp down on the fridge and freezer overnight and still the light is on. I have turned the freezer up as the food was starting to soften the back of the fridge has a layer of ice covering it. Can anyone suggest anything please?

Re: Help with Hotoint FFA71
Hi Helkingst
Use the search bit in the top green bar of the page and type in hotpoint, there has been alot of questions asked about them.
If you dont find what you are looking for please post again for info.
Going by the amount of people with hotpoint problems i`m definately not buying another one.If it ain't broke, it doesn't have enough features yet.

Re: Help with Hotoint FFA71
Hi Helkingst
This fridge/freezer controls the temperature in the freezer first. Can you set the temperature up on the freezer control to its highest setting and pull the machine out and see if the motor at the back has stopped running. It sounds like the thermostat/control board is not stopping the motor or shutting off the flap between fridge and freezer. If it ain't broke, it doesn't have enough features yet.

Re: Help with Hotoint FFA71
Sorry i totally lied about the freezer being controlled first.
You should have two temperature control thermostats one for fridge one for freezer.
I have the downloadable pdf file user manual for this machine if you require it.
The red warning light is a high temperature alert and can be reset by pressing the button next to this light.
After reading this more carefully i think either the thermostat for the fridge comparment is faulty or the door seal.If it ain't broke, it doesn't have enough features yet.

Re: Help with Hotoint FFA71
Hi Chunky
there is no button next to the red light (freezer high temp) the only buttons are for holiday and fast freeze. does the manual give an idiots guide as i am completely baffled! The door seal looks fine after we have checked.

Re: Help with Hotoint FFA71
Do you hear that compressor operates.
On compressor you have 2 pipes which are connected to him. If compressor, operate check that one pipe is hot (you could sting on her), and another should be cold to touch or maybe frozen. Also, If that fridge have classic condenser you should have black perforated sheet metal with pipe loops in them. Check that this sheet metal is warm.
Then post your findings.
In the meantime find someone willing to take your friezed food until you sort this out.
If you have red food defrost light and it is on, then you should cook food and eat it in 24 hours or throw it away. If you don't have that light, and frozen food is soften, act in same manner.Last edited by nike123; 18-04-2008 at 09:08 AM. Reason: adition

Re: Help with Hotoint FFA71
Did this ever get resolved as i have exactly the same problem / symptom and don't want to fork out £90 for a board if that wasn't the problem.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Re: Help with Hotoint FFA71
Is this fridge with two or one compressor?

Re: Help with Hotoint FFA71
One compressor, fridge is freezing up and the freezer is nice and warm warning light for freezer high temp on all the time fast freeze button does nothing, I have to turn the unit off from time to time to allow the fridge to defrost and occassionally (rarely) on power up the freezer works for an hour or two. Is it the board do you think??

Re: Help with Hotoint FFA71
I don't think that is the control problem from what you are saying here. If that is the problem you should have freezer working fine or to much and maybe fridge part don't work satisfactory..
I think that problem is with refrigerant circuit (low refrigerant charge or clogged freezer evaporator circuit).
I cant be more specific without insight at refrigerant and electrical diagram of that FF.
You should call service technician to diagnose the problem because, from here, that task require dedicated tools and specialist knowledge.
Or you could try to find answer here:
