    Daikin fault code E6

    Hi,

i have a daikin split unit giving a fault code of E6 which is Over current of STD compressor motor.

my question is what tests would i need to do to find and fix this problem.

    thanks for any help.

Disconnect the wires from the compressor and use a megger to check if the windings are down to earth, use an ohm meeter to check the resistance of the windings themselves.
Start the unit up (make sure the cable ends are made safe) and check what voltage you get supplied to where the compressor should have been connected.

More likely than not you will have found the problem after checking the above but if you haven't...
reconnect the cables and try to start the unit whilst monitoring the current drawn also check what voltage the compressor get.

    Hi Viking,

Thanks for the reply. I’ll make those checks on the next visit, sounds like we are looking at a possible compressor failure.

    cheers.

you will have to make sure all three phases are getting to the compressor, ie no hot joints!
also check the compressor resistance between the windings.
You will also have to check the current sensor depending on the model number.

I casino sorry for the late reply.
I think you're working on VRV with 2 compressors one STD and one INVERTER.
I had a lot of problems with E6 failure last week and i can advise you with 2 more cases.
1st/ there was sometimes one open phase through the power contactor, check white wire, S phase, then change the contactor.
2nd/ more rarely, in cold winter condition, overcurrent occurs (>15 amps) due to poor heating of the cranckase heater at the statup.
Check the cranckase heater or put another one at the bootom of the compressor.
Good luck, i think your answer is in our posts...
