VFD in Refrigeration Compressor
Can we install VFD (Variable speed Drives) for Refrigeration compressor with 6 cylinders motor capacity 160hp.
Help me

yes as long as you can maintain oil pressure. Since the oil pump was probably designed for a constant service this could cause a problem with lubrication and possible unit breakdown.

You should really check this with the compressor manufacturer.

More on the VFD usage
WENT to a sales meeting today at trane. we discussed the current york chillers 80 to 515 tons with screw compressors . All have no unloading just a vfd for capacity control. Part load conditions are excellent, in fact better then what we offer in our slide valve screw chillers.
