    Thermal Mastic

Heard of mastic adhesive and mastic sealer for low temperature applications : specialised silicon sealents for coldstore sandwich panel jointing and to maintain a a leak free installation. I think Selleys have some of them.

Virginia KMP makes a heat conducting mastic that improves heat transfer between otherwise unbonded components such as a heat sink to a computer ship or a TEV bulb to the suction line.

When I set ceramic tiles on a wall I will use mastic ... if I am setting natural stone on a wall I will use thinset. That was just the way I learned it. What I would like to know is would it be wrong/bad to use mastic for setting natural stone 6x6 or smaller on a wall?

    Re: thermal mastic

I have built many frost top counters using TM. I attach copper tubing to 1/4 aluminum plate with clamps as tightly as possible. Since the actual contact of copper to alluminum is small a fillet of TM is then applied to each side of the tubing filling in the gap to improve the transfer of the refrigeration effect to the aluminum. Then, on site, stone is placed on top of the aluminim. TM is used to transfer the effect to the stone. We use a 1/4" notched trowel to evenly spread the mastic on the alluminum and then put the stone on top. It works quite well. Ken

I know there are other ways to do this but That's the way I do it the customers have no complaints.
