    Conversion Help Required

Hi I require some helpful advice and perhaps an example of the formula, for taking British Thermal Units, and then somehow converting them into Kilo Jules.

I hope that is enough information thanx in advance

    Re: Conversion Help Required

Ok I think this is quite difficult, i have found this out for myself thus far.
    1x ton = 12000 btu/h = 200btu/min =3517w

The above is approximately the power to cool 1 short ton of water. This is done at 1deg f every ten minutes.
This is the less common usage of power required to cool 1 long ton of water,by 1 deg fevery ten minutes
    =13440 btu/h = 3939w

Do i have to convert to watts first? then find kilo joules? can anyone help?

    1 kWh equals 3,6 MJ

    So that's: 1 kiloWatthour equals 3,600,000 Joules

    1 BTU equals 0,29307121 W

Can't find the actual formula at the moment but THIS is a nifty piece of software that will convert it for you.

    try this http://www.onlineconversion.com/power.htm

    or download this

    http://www.shareup.com/downloading-9152.html

or this..one, the very best for me (converts many units and has a very good calculator within) try...

    Aha,

You were cheating for a test!

And here we thought that we were giving a fellow engineer advice on a practical problem....

    We should have guessed.

(Good luck with your tutor, hopefully he's not on this list)
