    Standard of cooling capacity.

Hi all, i am new in the forum and new in the air-condintioning industry. I wish to know is there any standard on the cooling capacity in certain area? Such as for normal bed room: 60btu/hr per square meter, for living hall: 80btu/hr per square meter.

Will happy with all your replies and wish you all have a good day...

    Re: Standard of cooling capacity.

Welcome to this very informative forum.

Regarding your question, I believe that there are no "standards" for cooling capacity but rather some rules of thumb that must be used with caution even by persons familiar with load calculations. Actually, I think that it is "600 btu/hr x square meter" for a tropical country like yours. I would like to encourage you to look for some more scientific approach to load calculation, maybe one based on one of those cooling load calculation worksheets available from equipment manufacturers and/or associations such as ACCA or ASHRAE.

    Re: Standard of cooling capacity.

There are no standards to ascertain the heat load for Air Conditioning and Refrigeration. Depending on many factors, such as the application, orientation of the area, construction, etc. you have to work out the heat load. The best is to do it manually. There are many good books to help, such Ashrae Handbooks, Carrier Hand Book on Design, etc. If you visit the Refrigeration Book section of this Forum, you may be able to get some valuable references or even links to download.

Thanks for the replies, i have got some idea now since look through reference book. There is no certain standard, as it was only a guideline form all the air-conditioning supplies such as carrier, york, acson etc.

Generally, all those guideline is from their design experience & calculation in certain countries, as different country having different RH%, drybulb temp. After that will be stated in terms of btu/hr.square ft.

What i mentioned b4 was btu/hr.square meter which was wrong...

Am i rite? anyone want to comment?
