Re: prestcold k150/0025
Its a 1.5hp compressor. nearest one in my book is a pk15x/0025 which is the esteroil charged version. the 0025 number is the swept volume in m3/second which works out as 9.1m3 at 1450rpm. I think its a low temperature model.
Yes its a Copeland style compressor. Valve bolt threads are unf instead of unc i think. they where built in the uk (possibly elsewhere to) and badged 'Prestcold'. Prestcold started out as pressedsteel car bodies makeing panels for Rover (i think) Don't know who copied who design wise.
Some of the earliest ones ive seen where badged as pressedsteel, 40+ years old.

If you need to know the duty at a given evap temp, give me a shout, i still have some old charts.

Re: prestcold k150/0025
Hi all
has anyone out there come across a Prestcold MALR150 condensing unit circa 1982, it is running a freezer on R12 I need to change the whole condensing unit but would rather leave the evaporator in situ, any sugestions (only helpful one please)
cheers

Re: prestcold k150/0025
I'd phone climate centre technical with model numbers of both the evap and condensing unit and get them to recommend a suitable replacement.
If the evap is suitable this may be a new unit and txv for R404A. I'm not sure R134a, which would be the nearest refrigerant pressure wise, is very efficient at freezer temperatures.
I'd also change the solenoid if the system has one as they can leak with the newer refrigerants/oils after years of faithful R12 service.
