    Formula to Calculate



    Hi Members

    Can somebody help me with the formula to calculate the following:

    In an insulated tank you get 200 liters of water at 5 Deg C and take out 50 liters from it and fill ambient temperature water ie at 35 deg C to it. What will be the new water temperature of the 200 liters.

    Please let me know the formula to calculate the above. Thanks in advance for you.

    ((150x5)+(50x35))/200=12.5 ???

    Use the formula with percentages

    150 ltrs = 75% @ 5C
    50 ltrs = 25% @ 35C

    so it is (75 x5) + (25 x 35)/100 = 12.5C

    (No, not the great musicians unfortunately, Keep It Simple Stupid was his motto)

    The only thing you do when you convert it to percentage is to take it from a fraction based on 200 (or whatever the original total might be) to a fraction based on 100 (and adding another stage to the formula).

    But HEY, at least we agree on the answer.

    If you look in Dossat the formula is expressed in percentage terms.

    If you apply the formula to a mixed air condition then it would be difficult to use anything other than percentage.

    The term which may cause confusion is "(25 x 35)/100 " so this modification will adapt what The Viking is asking about it:

    {(75 x5) + (25 x 35)}/100 = 12.5C

    Both The Viking and Frank did the same

    The Viking formula

    ((150x5)+(50x35))/200=12.5

    And Frank

    150/200 = 0.75

    50/200 = 0.25

    Therefore

    ((150x5)+(50x35))/200 = 0.75x5+0.25x35 = 12.5
