Defence of a freezer Door

The defence of a freezer door es a very simple structure located in front of the freezer door to evoid that the forklifts hit the door edges.

Normally it is made with 3, 4 ,6 or 8 inches sch 40 pipes formed a frame in front and behind the door.

In order to have a very good resistence agains the forklift hits ,one must "bury" the pipes 0,8 to 1 m down in the slab and in the soil.

With this technics one makes a very nice cold bridge between the freezer inside and the ground .

Beside that ,one do not make a good vapor barrier.

Of course underneath is located the heating elementes (air , electrical resistence or brine pipes)

-How do you make this denfeses?
-Why in some installations can one observe 6 inch pipe inside of 8" pipe filled with concrete?
-What do think to install an electrical heater at the end of each leg a bury together?

I don't think the defences are mass produced just bespoke made by the coldroom contractors or steel fabrication contractors.
They do follow a standard but they all differ slightly dependant on the job.
As for the tube in tube filled with concrete this method will give hugh strength to the overall structure and will in my opinion be as solid as rock.
I have seen defences that are built less strong in an attempt to deflect some of the force of the impact from the fork trucks.
I think its horses for courses.
I imagine there are steel fabricators out there that specialise in these barriers but from my oppinion the local fabricator is used.

we calll them goal posts, differant ways to do them,some rooms have a concrete kirb 300mm ish high by say 150mm wide all round the room inside and out [exepting the door opening] with the goal post built into this,that way the floor and threshold heater are all that are needed,you can also fit motorway armco barrier the same with guide ends on that aim you through the door with the goal post fitted behind it,but you must not fasten it too deep in case you hit the heater,one thing to think about is if you make it too strong it can injure the driver as opposed to it giving way in a extreem collision.
