    Freezer not freezing!

    I have an Indesit BA12S fridge-freezer that I recently defrosted as the freezer door was left slightly open so had a frost build up.
    Since the defrost the temperature has not dropped suffficiently to keep things fresh in the fridge (eg milk) or freeze things in the freezer compartment. Any suggestions for a solution to get back to normal working please

    Re: Freezer not freezing!

    How did you defrost it?....Turned off @ the mains plug, or Turned off using the Thermostat inside the fridge?
    Is the compressor (large black object at the bottom rear of the fridge freezer) running (hot to the touch)?

    {Just trying to establish if the power is reaching the compressor }

    It was turned off at mains to defrost and the compressor (large black object at the bottom rear of the fridge freezer) is running hot to the touch.

    Re: Freezer not freezing!

    it sounds like its developed a leak, its not uncommon to happen following a defrost on some of the electrolux cabinets the anti con coil would leak following a defrost.

    Is a refridgerator totally shot when a small puncture occurs to the inside of the freezer? I have been given two totally opposite opinions.

    Also is a leak dangerous?

    Thanks

    Is the evaporator fan running? The fan circulates the air for the freezer and refrigerator cabinets. If it's not running neither will get cold and the coil will frost up again.

    Throw it out. Most fridges are unservicable after a leak. If it has a leak on the inside, it's been sucking in moisture and air. It would take a lot of time to clean it up, from experience, you'll get blockages, until the time when the compressor burns out due to the contanimated oil you couldn't clean up.
    Other places for leaks are inside the cabinet, impossible to access.
    You really have to be lucky to catch a leak in time, It has to be near the compressor on the discharge side on visible pipework to even bother repairing them. A leak anywhere else after more than a few hours means death of a fridge.
