The filter in the indoor unit can be hoovered or rinsed and dried.
The outdoor unit's coil can be rinsed.

For anything else you will need to get a professional in.

The outdoor unit's coil can be rinsed.
    Preferably with the fans off!
Or else you get rather wet!

Don't even start me on that one.....

One of our apprentices (FORMER-) decided that it was too much hard work to get the ladder out, climb up, isolate the outdoor units and rinse the coils "close up".
Instead he used the fire-fighter method from the ground.

Needless to say, the cost of the window cleaner were more than what our apprentice were paid.

Dont listen to their jibes GRxristos they are just being mean

Air conditioning maintenace is as easy or as hard as you want it to be.

As you are a student dont rush into things

Before you remove any casings make sure you have a competent engineer with you to show you the system components and more importantly the control strategy that sets AC apart from fridges.

    good luck with your education

Make sure that you clean the unit inside & out, as well as the coils. Makes it a lot more pleasant when on a calout in between maintenance visits.

Re: Help with air condition (service e.t.c)

    Basic service
    1. Chemical clean indoor and outdoor coils
    2. clean out drip tray, condensate drain, pump if fitted
3.. clean blower fan (make sure you do)
    4. clean filters 5 check on/ off coil temperatures
    5. check compressor running current
    6. keep a record space, ambient,TD,temperatures,running currents,
    7. check the figures with manufacturers OM information.
If all is ok leave well alone.
You do not have to be a fully qualified engineer to carry out this service.Make sure you are aware of the dangers ie electric shock, temperature, pressure, moving parts, working from steps ladders.

Handling refrigerant, trouble shooting, replacing parts, cutting into the system, initially should be supervised. Then out on your own, remember ask before you task. There are many dangers working in HVAC
