proper connection of a Water cooled plant

I've tried finding the relevant codes to connecting a water cooled walk in plant to the potable water system. So far I have a double check back flow arrestor but some one insists there is additional requirements.

So far it goes as such: Potable water supply > Shut off valve > Double check valve back flow arrestor > Filter > Shut off valve > Plants intake.

Drain will be run to a sink or to a dedicated drain line with a stand pipe and the discharge droping into it partially.

I been trying to find more details on connection and such.

Hey MG, it looks like you have a minefield of Regulations in your part of the world.

I found this and gave up

Mind field nah, they just carpet bomb with thermal nukes, saves em time.

    Thanks for the find mate.

You wouldn't find that the local water company over here would be best pleased if you used an open circuit and potable water for a cooling process and then dumped it to drain.

You should be using a recirc system, (cooling tower)or a closed system (radiator)

It would probably be cheaper to use an air-cooled condenser instead of paying water and sewer costs. The sewer charges are roughly about 3 times the water expense, so it's not cheap.

And besides, a cooling tower would be more expensive to install in a small system. That's why you don't see very many small water-cooled systems anymore.

I doubt you need back-flow preventers in a separate tower circuit. This is typically only required when connected to a potable water system. I don't think you will make many friends dumping potable water down the drain.
If all else fails, ask for help.

The fountain that drains to the ocean installed by the town is run every summer <_< We are fed by a huge under ground river where what isn't used seeps out on the beach, and there is all ready a system running in the retserount, the benifit to equipment life, room comfert, reduced electrical draw all point to going to water cooled equipment.

How ever I will certainly look ino a remote water to air condencer as this will allow allot of flexibitity how ever the location will most likely ferverantly deny it and opt for open loop water cooling (This IS BC after all if it makes sense it is banned or more red tap then a trip to alfacentari!)

I think MG Pony only refers to a automatic refilling pipe, or am I wrong? If potable water is to be used as condensing water, there's no need for a back flow arrester, since the circuit would be open to the drain, and this layout would have no possibility of returning water into the aqueduct. Please additionally note that tap water is rich on oxygen, therefore highly oxidizing. Bad for iron pipes and condenser shell.

The system is all PEX and where connected in direct contact is Copper & Brass using a cadnium lead free silver bering solder, the filter carteridge can be replaced with a carbon type filter to reduce chlorine if needed.

I'm trying to make a very reliable manifold system to connect multiple systems to, and using systems to minimise water used.
