-80 Harris Freezer
hello
I have been working on a -80C Harris Upright Freezer cabinet (cascade system). The second stage compressor is faulty. Does anyone know who supplies these in the UK and also what type of refrigerant is in it.
Harris Mod No. SLT17V85V12
Ser No. 195033-NE
The plate on the side of the freezer also states : -
29700G22 14.75 oz
29702G02 5.7 oz
Looks like somebody's own secret code for the quantities and types of refrigerant in each system.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: -80 Harris Freezer
Hi PB, the only thing that I can find out about the Harris freezers is that they are available through a lot of second hand equipment suppliers as they are "no longer available".
Try a Google on "Harris SLT-17V-85V" and you'll see what I mean.
Gases are anyones guess at the moment, my thoughts for a -80°C would be R22 and R23, but no guarantees.Brian - Newton Abbot, Devon, UK

Re: -80 Harris Freezer
call Revco in the US. 1-800-438-4851. I dont know if they have a UK branch or not.
The compressor will cost USD $1300 + shipping. It is kinda standard to replace both compressors because they both have the same amount of wear on them. If you replace the 2nd stage only then only warranty that stage. I have had customers rebuild a single stage only to have the other stage go bad when I brought the freezer back. I even had one go bad on the rack while QCing it.
If it is an Alkyle benzine oil compressor you will use Scientific grade propane and R23. Regular R290 will work but it will shorten compressor life. If it is a POE oil system then you will use R404 and R508. Since your Freezer is old it probably had R500(1st) and R503(R503).
Before you start rebuilding PM me and I will help with the technical details. I dont want you keep bringing it back into the shop for warrenty repairs.
