What could be used instead of R404a

    Hi all.
I need to re-gas an ice machine that is setup for R404a. Could I use R134a or the new R22 (UK use)

R507. No R134a and for sure no R22 at all.

Hi John and welcome to the forum.

One has to ask, why not use R404a?

Thanks for the replys, I normally do work on small trawlers etc and so far always needed R22 or R134a.
I was just trying to see if i could avoid the cost a full cylinder for what may be a one off use.
I know it is becomming more common but my clients tend to work with old equipment ??
    Thanks again John

Well sooner or later you'll need it, I say just get a cylinder and tuck it safely away when don, and now you'll have some at hand next time round.

Disposable 2 and 6 Kgs and refillable 11 Kgs bottles are quite common here.

Hi John, What do you mean by the new R22?

As I understand it, R22 is on it's way out now.

Like NoNick suggests, R507....wins hands down over R404A
    Try googling it!
