    r408a to r404a

Good evening guys, just a quick question, Ive been unlucky enough to come across a cornelius 2 door counter top freezer running on r408a. It hasn't been holding temp properly for a while, condenser was stuffed right up with dirt. Apart from washing the condenser I haven't done anything else to it yet but it still struggles to get past -13 so I'm thinking low gas/capilary getting blocked up.Anyway to cut a long story short, can I use r404a If I end up taking it to bits as I don't carry r408a.

    Andy

No, I don't think you can.

Or rather, I don't think you are supposed to.

It probably would work though, but for how long!?

Best to try and sell a new unit.

    hi andy,

R408b is a drop in for the old R-502 i think it's a old installation and working with miniral oil.
You can charge the unit with R-404a but you have to change the oil and the dreier.
the best way is selling a new one.

hi andy, I personally am partial to 402a (HP80) for a 502 replacement. It runs slightly higher head pressure but it has a bit more capacity than 502.
