    R22 alternative

    Hi guys,
Just wondering if any of you have heard of RS-52 as an alternative for R22, and if so has there been any joy with it. It is supposed to be a direct replacement and may have been tested on a few DX units. However I would be interested if any of you know if its been used on a flooded system??
    Cheers..Yogi

    hi yogibear

RS52 is more commonly known over here as R428a and was designed for low/medium temperature refigeration.
It can be used with mineral/alkylbenzene/polyolester oils
Running pressure's are similar to R502, a little higher than R22

    Hi Chillerman,
Thank you for you input. im just concerned about putting it into a flooded system. Reckon i would rather change to 134a, although i will drop effeciency, but there are ways around that..

    HI Yogi

i would have thought R407c would be a better option - pressures are higher but like R134a you will need to retrofit the unit

if you like i can email you a complete list of available gases - there uses - compatible oils etc.

How about R417a (Isceon 59) I believe it is a drop in replacement for R22

    Hi all,

I suspect that the glide of R-407C is too much for a flooded system (about 7 deg C), and I am not aware of any "drop-in" for R-22 that has no glide. However we have done some testing of various ISCEON MO refrigerants in flooded water chillers. If you put ISCEON MO59 into the plant then what circulates is broadly similar to ISCEON MO29, so the performance can be guesstimated using the MO29 data (glide of about 3 deg C). Oil return from the chiller's original rectifier was also fine. I'm not sure that RS-52 would do the same thing so performance might be very poor. As they say in all the best films "There's only one way to find out"!!

    cheers
