Post Hi all, need of help on testing of domestic refrigerators

    Hi all,

    I am new here
I have been working as a design Engineer in a company making domestic refrigerators since last one year
My previous experience is not in refrigeration field, so i am looking after structural aspects of refrigerators

Becuase of lack of experience in Cycle, i feel inadequate for further growth in this field

Therefore I want to update my knowledge on Cycle and specifically on the testing of domestic refrigerators

Is there anyone who can help me on this???

    .

Any good text book will teach you about the refrigeration cycle.

As for the rest of it, presumably you are talking about rating and performance tests in a calorimeter?

Which test you do will be determined by standards and will be specific to the market where you intend your product to be sold, so if you are considering more than one market area, you may need the appropriate standards for those countries. Then you need to identify the test standards you intend to use and read it all up. They are not all the same.

Next, look at energy efficiency regulations for the markets of your choice ands see what standards they use. Many different parts of the world have mandatory regulatory energy efficiencies for refrigerators.

This will tell you a lot about how the things work and the refrigeration cycle.

Here’s a web site that has a searchable database of energy efficiency standards worldwide.

Here’s a page you can search by region and product.

Re: Hi all, need of help on testing of domestic refrigerators

    Dear friend
    Thanks a lot
Well I am talking about the following tests which are frequently talked about around
    1. Pull Down test
    2. Cycling test
    3. Energy test
    4. Defrost test
    5. Dew Test
    6. Sound test
    7. Vibration test
    8. OLP non actuation test
    9. OLP actuation test
    10. Drain Evaporation test
    11.High Humidity test
    ------------etc.

Is there any book which can give a general idea about these tests

    .

All the details that you need on the specific tests you listed will be in the various relevant standards. The standards are there to explain what to do and how to do it.

You may also add to those topics, Electrical safety, Refrigeration safety, EMC issues.

There may be specialised manuals on testing but most manufacturers make their own, so they may not be available in the open market.

Your list is quite lengthy, so all the items may not be all together in the same standard, for example, sound and accoustics and vibration may have their own specific standards.

    As I said:

    1. Research the applicable standards in your intended market.
    2. Obtain and read them.

    It's all there.
This is an instance where you have to do the work yourself.
